Barolo

Description: most valuable DOCG red wine; rare. Named "Wine of Kings"
Grapes: Nebbiolo
Colour: garnet red and orange-coloured
Alcoholic strenght: 13 degrees
Production: Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Cherasco, Diano d’Alba, Grinzane Cavour, Morra, Monforte d’Alba, Novello, Roddi, Serralunga d’Alba and Verduno.
Ageing: anni tre (uno in oak butt), for the DOCG denomination it’s needed a four years ageing
Special years: 1868,1894,1922,1931,1947,1971,1982 and 1989; great years:1879, 1887, 1898, 1905, 1907, 1912, 1927, 1929, 1934, 1958, 1970, 1985.

Boca

Description: red wine
Grapes: Nebbiolo (45-70%) and Vespolina and Bonarda.
Colour: ruby and orange-coloured
Alcoholic strenght: 12 degrees
Production: Boca, Prealpi Novaresi, between Borgomanero and Romagnano Sesia.

Bonarda

Description: ancient piemontese red wine
Grapes: Bonarda
Colour: ruby
Alcoholic strenght: 12 degrees
Production: Torino, Novara and Monferrato.

Brachetto d'Acqui

Description: red dessert wine of high quality; first wine to reach DOCG in Italy. Sweet and sparkling wine
Grapes: Brachetto
Colour: ruby or rosy
Alcoholic strenght: 11.5 degrees, not ageing
Production: High Monferrato, hills near Acqui Terme and Nizza Monferrato, between Alessandria and Asti.

Caluso

Description: white dessert wine. Rare.
Grapes: Erbaluce, raisin wine
Colour: golden
Ageing: five years
Alcoholic strenght: 13.5 degrees
Production: Caluso, south of Ivrea (To)

Carema

Description: red DOC wine
Grapes: Carema, a son of Nebbiolo grapes
Colour: garnet red, with rose flavour
Alcoholic strenght: 12 degrees
Production: mountains between Torino and Aosta Valley

Chardonnay and Pinot bianco

Description: white sparkling wines
Production: Monferrato and Langhe

Cortese

Description: dry white wines, very young; DOCG; two different kinds: Cortese dei Colli Tortonesi and Cortese dell'Alto Monferrato.
Colour: pale yellow
Alcoholic strenght: 10.5 degrees
Production: Hills between Tortona and Monferrato; over 7 millions of buttles from 1998.

Dolcetto

Description: red DOC wine; seven different DOC kinds: Dolcetto di Acqui, Dolcetto d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Asti, Dolcetto delle Langhe Monregalesi, Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba, Dolcetto di Dogliani, Dolcetto di Ovada
Colour: red or ruby
Ageing: young wines; Dolcetto Superiore is ageing one year or most
Alcoholic strenght: 11.5-12.5 degrees
Production: best years 1947, 1961, 1964, 1971, 1978, 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1993.

Erbaluce di Caluso

Description: white wine
Grapes: Erbaluce
Colour: pale yellow
Alcoholic strenght: 11 degrees
Production: Candia lake and Caluso

Fara

Description: highly esteemed red wine, but no famous
Grapes: Nebbiolo with a bit of Vespolina and Bonarda Novarese.
Colour: red
Ageing: tre years (two in oak butts)
Alcoholic strenght: 12 degrees
Production: Val Sesia, Fara Novarese, between Sesia and Agogna rivers 

Freisa

Description: red wines
Grapes: Freisa
Colour: dark red, garnet red, orange-coloured or cherry red
Alcoholic strenght: 11.5 degrees
Production: hills between Asti and Torino

Gabiano

Description: red wine
Grapes: Barbera, with Freisa and Grignolino.
Colour: ruby red
Alcoholic strenght: 12 degrees
Production: Gabiano, near Alessandria.

Gattinara

Description: red DOCG wine (named Spanna too)
Grapes: Nebbiolo grapes (with Bonarda of Gattinara)
Colour: garnet red
Alcoholic strenght: 12 degrees
Production: Gattinara, near Vercelli

Ghemme

Description: red wine
Grapes: Nebbiolo grapes (with Vespolina and Bonarda Novarese grapes)
Colour: red and garnet red

Grignolino

Description: red DOC wine (Two different kinds: Grignolino di Asti and Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese)

Description: red wine. two different kinds: Malvasia di Casorzo and Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco
Grapes: Malvasia (with Freisa, Barbera, Grignolino, max 10%)
Colour: ruby red, orange-coloured
Alcoholic strenght: 10.5 degrees
Production: hills near Casorzo and Castelnuovo Don Bosco

Moscato d'Asti

Description: most famous white wine; sweet wine
Grapes: Moscato
Colour: pale yellow
Alcoholic strenght: low
Production: Canelli, near Asti

Nebbiolo

Description: red valuable wine (the most famous is the Nebbiolo d’Alba)
Grapes: Nebbiolo
Colour: ruby and garnet red
Alcoholic strenght: 12 degrees

Rubino di Cantavenna

Description: red wine
Grapes: Barbera, with Grignolino or Freisa.
Colour: ruby and garnet red

Description: ancient DOC wine
